Camcorder turns off automatically

Problem:

My camcorder turns off automatically after a few minutes, for no apparent reason.

Answer:

This is a feature of all MiniDV camcorders.

When the camcorder is turned on in 'Camera' mode, the magnetic band of the tape is tensed, ready for recording. To avoid this tension to happen for a long time when idling and a potential failure, the camera will go in sleep mode after a certain amount of time (1 to 3 minutes on most models).

To avoid this sleep mode you just need to remove the tape from the camera. Of course, we cannot guarantee this solution for all camcorders on the market - please ask your camcorder reseller/manufacturer if you want to make sure.
