Connecting your MiniDV Camcorder to the computer
Camera connection MiniDV
This guide will take you through the basics of connecting your MiniDV Camcorder to your computer.
What you need:
- A MiniDV camcorder
- A FireWire (IEEE1394) port on your computer
- A FireWire (IEEE1394) cable
Connection:
- Have your camcorder turned off.
- Plug one end of the FireWire cable to a FireWire port of your computer, and the other end to the FireWire output of your camcorder (refer to your camera's documentation if needed.)
- Turn you camcorder on: WindowsXP should notify you of the camcorder detection with a sound. A window will also pop-up, asking you which task you want to do. Cancel it for now.
Verify the connection:
- Click the 'Start' menu, and select 'My Computer'
- You should see a camcorder icon. Double-click it.
Click picture for a larger view
- If everything is fine, Windows should now show you an Explorer window with the Live picture from the camcorder. If you manage to achieve that, you're all set for using your camera in Dartfish Software! But remember you will have to close the Explorer window first, or your camera will be locked.
You can find more information by following this link, and selecting Capturing video in the Video tutorials section.
It is also available on the Start Page inside your software (v4.x)
