Current situation with secondary external screen usage
Currently the situation of connecting a secondary external display to use ATI’s Theater Mode or NVIDIA’s fullscreen video mirror mode is becoming increasingly difficult for users because of new restrictions implemented by the operating system and graphics card manufacturers.
The current situation on Windows XP
- ATI : Don’t have any restrictions still work fine at the moment.
- NVIDIA : Fullscreen video mirror mode is not available anymore with new graphics cards and is being gradually removed from older graphics cards thru driver updates.
The current situation on Windows Vista
- ATI : Requires a graphics card higher than Radeon X1000 and the Windows theme must be set to Windows Classic in order to use ATI’s Theater Mode.
- NVIDIA : Fullscreen video mirror mode is not available.
We unfortunately have no control on these restrictions and can only hope for a change of policy in the near future to see this feature once again completely unrestricted.
