Information about Codec Packs

codec pack video clip playback

We had many customers having issues with extreme slowness when opening clips, slow/choppy playback, visual artifacts, video clip being completely green, or no video playback at all.

About all of these issues were resolved when we discovered a common factor between these customers: they had 'Codec Packs' installed. These packs that you download on the net for free include a incredible amount of different Codecs for Video/Audio playback. That's sounds like handy, but unfortunately these packs are most of the time made by amateurs, and it can make several problems occur: conflicts between some codecs, and messing with some system Codecs, some of them being used by our software to correctly run and display video.

Therefore, if you suspect some strange behavior of Dartfish Software in clip playback/rendering, and you have a Codec Pack installed, please uninstall it as a first step and try again.

For video enthusiasts that would like to use some "custom" Codecs, like DivX or XviD, I would advise you to directly get these Codecs from their author's website and not from inside a pack. This is the only secure way to guarantee there won't be any conflict with the codecs needed by Dartfish Software.
