My captures stop with an error message saying I don't have enough space left, but it's wrong.

hard disk

Problem: You are are capturing long files, and after about 15 minutes of capture you get an error message saying you don't have enough space left, when it's obviously wrong. If you check the size of the generated file, it is about 4GB

Solution: This issue is hard-disk file system related. There are two kinds of file systems still used today:

  • FAT32:
Old fashioned file system from Windows 95/98. Doesn't support files larger than 4GB. That means about 15 minutes of DV Video recording.

  • NTFS:
Most recent file system that came with Windows2000 and WindowsXP. The limitation doesn't exist anymore.

Therefore, to solve the problem, you will have to convert your Hard-Disk from FAT32 to NTFS. This can be done very simply, without any data loss. It is a really safe operation.

To achieve it, please follow this link and read the whole paragraph called "Converting to NTFS Using Convert.exe".
