Dartfish Enhances Olympic Performance Behind the Scenes and Out Front with Broadcasting Special Effects
Dartfish users at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing racked up 372 medals including 117 gold medals, more than doubling the Athens medal count, with 34 countries reporting in.
Governing bodies, federations, and clubs around the world helped their athletes prepare for Beijing, by providing Dartfish for analysis and training, because competing today is about miniscule margins of error.
“Every little thing counts” explains Jeremy Wariner, 24, when viewing Dartfish video during one of his training sessions, according to the Houston Chronicle, August 16th.
Wariner took Silver for the United States in Beijing, coming to the 2008 Summer Olympics ranked the number one 400 meter runner since 2004, when he won gold in Athens.
USA Track and Field, who ranked 1st in this venue, ran away with 23 medals and 7 golds. “All 23 medalists for the United States analyzed with Dartfish,” stated Mike Holman, who served on the Olympic Video Technology Support Team.
At the Shunyi Rowing Venue, the Canadian Olympic Committee was the only nation to capture live video using Dartfish. Thus, the Men’s 8+ Rowing Team analyzed their qualifying race, making strategic changes before securing gold.
According to Canadian Olympic Team, Performance Technology Mission Staff Member, Kristin Collins, DartfishTV - a new video streaming/storage platform was utilized each day during the Olympic Games. "Our staff captured top Canadian Olympic performances using Dartfish, enriched the video content, and then uploaded the final production onto Dartfish TV, so that all Canadian Olympic Teams, whether located in Beijing or at outside venues, could view the day’s best performances for additional team-building and motivational purposes. This was a GREAT success!"
The French Handball Team, longtime Dartfish users, grabbed the gold with a strategy that included using Dartfish software for “combining videos of all the players in the world with match statistics to train our teams….successfully incorporating the technology into our training program,” according to Mr. Philippe Bana in Reuters August 7, 2008. Bana saw these dividends pay off in gold at the Beijing Olympics by studying their opponents' every move, strength and weakness, helping the French players devise the perfect counter-attack.
Brazil, France, Japan, Korea and the United States all attained gold in swimming – each with training programs incorporating Dartfish.
Taekwondo gold medals numbered six, with four from first ranked Korea and two from Mexico, who placed second. Seven more countries - Brazil, Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the United States and Venezuela earned eight Silver and Bronze Medals – all nine countries with federations who endorse Dartfish. USA Olympic News Media interviewed Juan Moreno, the Olympic Head Coach for the USA Taekwondo Team, who coached his team to 3rd place in Beijing. Moreno stated that he “incorporates Dartfish technology in training….regarding proper technique development for athletes.”
The 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics featured stunning presentations by China with spectacular record-breaking performances by athletes from around the world. Dartfish was proud to be a part of this amazing worldwide event, contributing to enhanced athletic performances in scores of Olympic events, as well as providing broadcasting special effects with Stromotion. Six companies used Dartfish for broadcasting and internet publishing, including Televisa in Mexico and NBC in the USA. Four networks - CBC of Canada from Toronto, Canal+ of France operating from Paris, SVT from Sweden in Stockholm, and the BBC of the United Kingdom operating from Beijing, each used Dartfish technology in their broadcasts.
The Dartfish Team would like to congratulate each Olympic athlete from around the world for their dedication and outstanding performance in Beijing at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
