Dartfish provided SimulCam? images for all of the Olympic alpine ski races during the games to broadcasters around the world and the reaction was unbelievable. Spectators loved it, coaches and athletes praised it, and journalists wrote headline stories about the start-up company from Switzerland that made such an impact on the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
Joanne Ostrow from the Denver Post wrote about our broadcast images: ?The "SimulCam" is the greatest invention since the schuss-nics set up along the course that let you hear the icy turns. It may be humankind's greatest step forward since lace-up ski boots gave way to buckles.?
Perhaps the most amazing and gratifying thing for us is that not only did our images enhance the viewing experience for spectators around the world, but also that our technology has been used by many of the athletes who won medals at the games. Many of these athletes and their coaches have directly attributed improvements in their performances to our DartTrainer training software which incorporates the SimulCam images and much more into one powerful video enhancement program. Wow!
At the closing of the games 45 of the medals that were won during the games were won by athletes who have been training with the DartTrainer: Check it out!
Simon Ammann ? two gold medals for Switzerland in ski jumping ? has been using SimulCam? and Stromotion? images in his training. His coach, Berne Schoedler, said the DartTrainer has been an important training tool for the team. ?My challenge has always been to illustrate dynamic and fluid jumps. Thanks to DartTrainer?s StroMotion? enhancement, I can show athletes these aspects visually and give them efficient feedback for the mental understanding of their jumps,? he said. ?This technology gives the athletes good input about what they do right and wrong in a very short time.?
Here is an excerpt from an email that we recently received from Mark Wood, the head coach of the Canadian National Skeleton Team where he writes, ??we have 3 men & 2 Women going to the games, the only other nation with as many athletes is the USA, so we have performed really well. Dartfish has been a great help to me in coaching the team, the women are the #1 nation overall in the WC standing and medal favorites. The men are 3rd overall.? The Skeleton team will be competing Wednesday the 20th and we wish them luck and hope to see them.
"The Dartfish program has been a tremendous help to our athletes and coaches in preparation for the games," said Kevin Conrad, U.S. Speed Skating Sport Scientist. "The Dartfish program has provided the means to break down skating technique in order to make those subtle, yet important adjustments." The work that the U.S. Speed Skating team did preparing for the Olympics obviously paid off as they won several medals during the games.
