Bringing Innovation to the Ice Rink in Füssen
The German Curling Association recently partnered with Dartfish to implement a cutting-edge video analysis system at their training facility in Füssen. Leveraging the myDartfish PRO software and an optimized multi-camera setup, this project demonstrates how indoor sports like curling can benefit from advanced, flexible video capture technology.
Accurate, Synchronized Video From Multiple Perspectives
Curling requires precise technical analysis — from stone delivery to athlete posture and movement. To support coaching and performance review, the association needed a multi-angle recording setup that was flexible, wireless, and capable of delivering high-frame-rate video in real-time.

In the Füssen curling hall, a system of four synchronized IP cameras was installed:
- 1 ceiling-mounted camera
- 1 left-side wall camera
- 1 rear camera
- 1 front-facing camera, mounted 50 meters away under the ceiling
Three of the cameras, equipped with optical zoom lenses, capture the stone delivery using fixed zoom angles. A newly added fourth IP camera records the player from approximately 50 meters away from the front. This camera’s zoom can be dynamically adjusted during recording via smartphone, tablet, or PC browser — allowing real-time tracking of the athlete’s movement.

All four perspectives are recorded simultaneously and transmitted wirelessly to a central PC.

Ipads & Wireless Streaming
A key innovation in this setup is the ability to combine IP cameras and iPads, both capable of capturing up to 240 fps in Full HD. These devices stream video wirelessly over Wi-Fi, removing the need for complex wiring and enabling flexible camera positioning around the ice.
Additional iPads (as camera 5 or 6) can be easily added and placed on the ice or moved during play — with no limit to the number of sources available for synchronized video streaming.

Mobile and Autonomous Analysis Station
To process and review footage, the team used a high-resolution touch monitor from scit8, connected to a PC with Dartfish PRO. This monitor runs without a mouse, is fully battery-powered, and can be moved freely within the rink — ideal for large indoor spaces.

For smaller setups, a laptop with a power station also works seamlessly.
